There are several reasons why a 4-inch drop axle trailer is beneficial for hauling.
Since drop axles have a lower deck height, this is great for enclosed trailers or car haulers where low ground clearance loading and unloading are needed.
It can also make a height difference to fit under a low clearance garage door entrance.
ACCURATELY MEASURE YOUR TRAILER AXLE
1. HUB FACE & SPRING CENTER
Trailer axle hub face is the distance from the outside of hub mounting flange to outside of hub mounting flange, measured one-half way between top and bottom of the hub. The hub face is also known as the mounting surface where the wheel studs are located. Hub face to hub face can also be called the axle track or the center line of the tire to the center line of the tire.
2.DROP
Trailer axle drop is the distance from the centerline of spindle to bottom of the main axle tube.
(1)--Locate the spindle (the part that the wheel hub attaches to).
(2)--Find the center of the spindle. This is usually the point where the bearing surface is.
(3)--Locate the main axle tube (the beam that runs from wheel to wheel).
(4)--Measure from the center of the spindle down to the bottom of the main axle tube. This is the "drop".
